Pharmaceutical

Intermediate for Pharmaceuticals:
DCD is a key intermediate in synthesizing guanidine derivatives, used in various medications such as antiviral drugs, antidiabetics, and treatments for cardiovascular diseases.
Example:
"Dicyandiamide is employed in the production of metformin, a widely used drug for type 2 diabetes."Starting Material for Metformin. TROPHARM is high purity dicyandiamide, which is used in large quantities in the pharmaceutical industry as a starting material for the production of Metformin. Metformin is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Wastewater Treatment

High-Performance Flocculants and Decolorization Agents:
Ultra-fine DCD derivatives improve water treatment performance by enhancing reaction rates and ensuring uniform dispersion.

Suspended Solids Removal:

Nitrification Inhibitor:
DCD is widely used as a nitrification inhibitor in fertilizers to improve nitrogen utilization efficiency, reduce nitrogen loss, and minimize environmental pollution.

"Dicyandiamide is added to ammonium-based fertilizers to reduce nitrate leaching and greenhouse gas emissions."

Controlled-Release Fertilizers:
DCD helps enhance the performance of controlled-release fertilizers, promoting sustainable farming practices.

for agriculture purposes in order to stabilise urea. It increases the useful period of the fertiliser and prevents the environment damaging washing-out of the nitrates in fertilised fields.

Paper

Fixing Agent in Paper Processing:
DCD is used as a component in cationic fixing agents to improve paper quality by enhancing retention of fine particles and fillers.

Wet-Strength Agent:
As a raw material in wet-strength resins, DCD enhances the durability of paper products under wet conditions.

"Wet-strength agents derived from dicyandiamide are critical for producing durable packaging and hygiene products."Flame Retardants and Insulation. Filter media for clean-air for engines. Engines require filter media with high dust particle storage capacities. Special synthetic fibers would be one way to fulfill these requirements.

Textile

Textile and Dyeing Industry
Dye Fixation and Retention:
DCD-based derivatives are used in textile dyeing processes to improve color fixation, especially for reactive dyes.

Resin Treatment:
Used in textile finishing to enhance wrinkle resistance and durability of fabrics.

DCD is also an excellent formaldehyde acceptor in the high-grade finishing of textiles (refining). They are also used for flame resistant finishing of textiles in combination for instance with phosphates.

Printed Circuit Boards

Epoxy Resin Hardener:
DCD is used as a curing agent for epoxy resins in electronics manufacturing, ensuring high thermal stability and electrical insulation properties.

Adhesive and Coating Applications:

Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) are typically made from glass fibre which are impregnated with epoxy resins, hardeners and accelerators. Several layers are then laminated together at high pressure and cured with the help of Dicyandiamide. It is an important chemical raw material widely used in resins, paints, adhesives, coatings, and plastics.

Pesticide

Production of Pesticides:
DCD is a key intermediate in synthesizing various pesticides, such as fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides. It contributes to the development of active ingredients that are effective in controlling pests and diseases.
